The Secret of Harnessing Your True Conscience Power

Conscience is that part of our consciousness that is vital to our development and growth. However, there is conscience and true conscience. The former is subjective, the latter objective. We often think the function of our subjective, or conditioned, conscience, is to spoil life for those of us who are unlucky enough to be pricked by it. It could be said that ‘your conscience doesn’t keep you from doing anything, it merely keeps you from enjoying it.’ In this guise it can be likened to an irritating acquaintance that you have periodically to tolerate. All too often we construct an entire framework of intelligent rationa-lies-ations in our attempts to justify actions that contradict our deepest sense of right and wrong.

Without understanding and development of our true conscience, that internal guide that provides clarity and guidance, its valuable power will remain untapped. It will lie dormant behind our conditioned conscience which asks: ‘Will I be found out?’ If not we reason, then everything will be okay. When true conscience is harnessed, however, we are able to break down the internal barriers that prevent us from facing our inner contradictions and see the truth about ourselves. In doing so we are able to achieve a level of inner security that is reflected in every area of our personal and professional lives.

There are numerous situations which, although seemingly small and insignificant, we see as a normal and acceptable part of our everyday behaviour, both personally and, in particular, professionally. They will often appear as simply the normal way of doing business. We cheat on our taxes or expense account; we tell little white lies in our business dealings; we keep quiet when we are given too much change. Though we like to believe that our word is our bond, we change our minds about honouring agreements that we have made with others, hiding behind a man-made caveat. We exaggerate or omit information as we consider appropriate, in order to get what we want.

Conscience guides us as to what is good or bad concerning our conduct with others. Yet we have become adept in generating a rationalisation for every one of our small dishonest acts in order to justify them on a mental level. On a deeper level, however, as they remain unjustified and unresolved, they drain our sense of self-worth. Over time their amalgamated and compounded effect contributes to confusion, guilt, loneliness, ulcers, cancer and heart attacks, as our inner fears and conflicts attack our bodies.
